Reinstalling Microsoft® Windows® 2000 with RAID Configuration

 


      

The Windows 2000 Professional with RAID Configuration has been preinstalled on your computer. Under normal circumstances you should not need to reinstall the operating system.

     NOTICE:

  • It is recommended that you do not reinstall the Windows 2000 Professional operating system over your currently installed Windows operating system unless you are advised by a technical support representative.

  • The version of Windows 2000 Professional includes Service Pack 3 or higher is required for the RAID Driver.

To reinstall Windows 2000 Professional with RAID Configurations, please perform the following steps in the order listed:

  1. Turn off the computer and remove the external devices including the docking station, Monitor, keyboard and mouse.

  2. Run RAID setup (Please refer to the "How to setup the RAID" doc )

  3. Set the computer to boot from the CD-ROM. Please refer to your User Manual for the settings of the System Configured Utility (SCU).

  4. Insert the Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional CD into the CD-ROM drive. Make sure that the computer is connected to the AC power, and then reboot the computer.

  5. Press any key when prompted Press any key to start up from the CD… Windows 2000 Professional is now preparing to run.

  6. Press the F6 key when the massage "Press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI or RAID driver" appears.

  7. When the Windows setup menu appear, press the "S" key to "Specify Additional Device"

  8. Inserted the floppy disk with the RAID driver copied in to it.

  9. Select the "Win2000 Promise Fastrack100 (tm) Lite Controller" and then press Enter

  10. The system will now read from the floppy drive and return to Windows setup menu. And then Press Enter to continue.

  11. Press the Enter key to install Windows 2000 Professional when the Windows 2000 Professional screen appears. Press the R key to repair a Windows 2000 installation. To quit without installing, press the F3 key.

  12. Press the F8 key to agree to the terms at the Windows 2000 Licensing Agreement screen.

  13. On the Windows 2000 Professional Setup screen, use the arrow keys to select the partition to install to. After selecting a partition, press ENTER.

  14. The next screen prompts you to choose which File System to install. Use the arrow keys to mark your selection, then press ENTER. The next screen checks the hard disk.

  15. On the next screen, wait as the Setup program copies files. When it is finished, the computer will initialize the Windows 2000 configuration.

  16. This portion of Setup is complete. Remove disks from all drives. Press ENTER to restart the computer or wait until it restarts automatically.

  17. The MS-DOS screen shows Windows preparing to start. The Windows 2000 Professional splash screen appears.

  18. A Windows 2000 Setup dialog box prompts you to please wait. In the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard dialog box, click Next.

  19. In the Windows 2000 Professional Setup dialog box, Setup is detecting and installing devices on the computer. In the next dialog box, you can customize regional settings. Click Next. In the Name text box, type your full name. In the Organization text box, type your organization name, then click Next.

  20. In the Windows 2000 Setup dialog box, type the Product Key, then click Next. In the next Windows 2000 Professional Setup dialog box, you are prompted for the computer name and administrator password. Type the information or accept a default, if appropriate. When complete, click Next

  21. In the next dialog box, you are prompted for modem dialing information. Provide all necessary information, then click Next. Set the correct date and time, and then click Next.

  22. Windows setup continues and installs networking components. In the next dialog box, networking settings need to be installed. Click Typical settings or Custom settings, then click Next. In the workgroup and computer domain information is required dialog box. You are prompted to decide whether you want this computer to be a member of a domain. These instructions show No as the answer. If the answer is Yes, type the  domain information in the Workgroup or computer domain text box. Click Next.

  23. Setup continues and installs Windows 2000 components. It then completes a final set of tasks and reports the progress. The Setup Wizard states that Windows 2000 Setup is complete. Remove any disks, then click Finish to restart the computer.

  24. Windows starts up and the splash screen appears. In the Network Identification Wizard dialog box, the wizard requires information about users of this computer, such as whether they have to enter a user name and password to log on. Click the preferred option and type any necessary information in the User name and Password text boxes. When complete, click Next and Finish.

  25. Wait while personal settings are applied. In the Getting Started with Windows 2000 dialog box, click Exit or any of the other options.

  26. Reinstall the appropriate drivers.
